Your data security is of our highest concern; after your equipment is securely collected it is transported back to our service centre where the first stage of recycling is data wiping/destruction. It is critical that all existing data from any storage locations are destroyed permanently. The only secure way to destroy data without physically destroying the media storage device is to overwrite all addressable storage and indexing locations on the drive: with zeros (0x00), complement (0xFF) and random characters; and then verifies all writing procedures. Our meticulous data wipe exceeds DoD 5220.22M, HMG IS5, US Army, US Air Force, NCSC-TG-025 standards as well as 12 other worldwide recognized security standards. These standards dictate that the overwriting process must occur three times. At TBC Recycler & Auctioneer we guarantee the highest level of security by using the latest and most secure software that allows us to overwrite storage locations seven times exceeding the required security standards by more than double.
When your equipment arrives with us it is quarantined where only authorized staff can release the equipment to our data wiping and auditing area (all areas of our site are covered by 24 hour CCTV). Once the equipment is securely transported to this area, our first priority is to ensure that all data on storage locations and media devices are permanently destroyed. Once our seven wipe pass is complete, the computer item is then tested; the details of which including asset numbers/tags are specified in an asset report. All asset tags and company references including permanent security tags are then removed from all items. If a storage location is faulty or physically damaged and cannot undergo software data destruction, it is removed from its device and will undergo the process of degaussing. Our degausser unit is capable of removing data from a PC hard drive in 20 seconds. Once the hard drive or media device has been degaussed the data is deemed unrecoverable however as an extra security precaution and in complying with our extremely high data security policy, we will then physically destroy the hard drive.

The 1998 Data Protection Act makes it a legal obligation to implement proper security measures to prevent unauthorised access, alteration or accidental loss or destruction of personal data. Under the 1998 Data Protection Act, failure to remove personal data from a computer's storage location may result in legal prosecution and unlimited fines, to include personal compensation claims.
